Search Engine Optimization

How To Improve (SEO)

Domain Name with Keywords: Smart - requires planning. Purchase a domain name that has your number one keyword in it.

Use Alt Tags: Web spiders only see text - not pictures. Label your images with alt tags to help search engines find you.

Use Meta Tags: This is the stuff in the code at the top of a web page that web spiders skim for relevance: <title></title>, <meta name="Keywords" content=""/>, <meta name="Description" content=""/> The content of your meta tags should match text that appears in the body of the web page.

Header Tags: <h1><h2><h3> Use these tags in your content to emphasize the important headers within your articles.

Content, Content, Content: Including commonly searched keywords and phrases in your copy makes your website more optimized. If you want to use specific keywords and phrases that are relevant to your business, find a way to work them into your writing. Just make sure it reads naturally. The more text you can provide on your subject, the better your odds are for making a match to what your internet audience is specifically looking for. You're not trying to fool anyone, you just need to make sure that the search engines can recognize your product for what it is.

Social Networking: Be a participant. There are billions of websites out there and if you want people to visit yours, you have to tell them that it exists. Mention it on social sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. By commenting on someone else's profile you generate exposure for your own. When they reciprocate, all their followers are directed to your wall. Find relevant social groups and participate in the conversation.

Media Networking: Put your photos and videos on public media sites like Youtube, Flicker, etc... and link back to your website.

Get Listed: A website does not in itself generate traffic. If you build it they will come, but only if you tell them where it is. Submit your website to search engines and directories.

Book Marking: Remind people visiting your website to book mark it for easy reference - this counts as a link.

Introduce Your Website to the Big Players: Submit your website to Google, Yahoo and Bing.
