Is Your Website Searchable?

Domain Name with Keywords
Try to purchase a domain name that has your number one keyword in it...such as rhinoinkwebdesign.com.

Label Your Images
Web spiders can't see image, they like text. Add alt tags to the images on your website to help search engines find you.

Use Meta Tags
Meta Title, Meta Description, and Meta Keywords.

Utilize Header Tags
Use header tags in your content to emphasize the important headers within your articles.

Content, Content, Content
Pull keywords are within your articles. If you want to use specific keywords that are relevant to your business and you know that people are searching for those words or phrases, work them into the text on your page. Just make sure it reads naturally. The more text you can provide on your subject, the better your odds are for making a match to what your internet audience is specifically looking for. You're not trying to fool anyone, you just need to make sure that the search engines can recognize your product for what it is.

Book Marking
Remind people visiting your website to book mark it for easy reference - this counts as a link.

Search Engines & Directories

Add your website & blog to directories as well as search engines.

Things you can do to improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

1. Content is key... if your customers are looking for "help me sleep through the night" you have to write things like "I can assist with situations such as "help me sleep through the night". That was a long example but it makes my point. People search with keywords and phrases and including those keywords and phrases in your copy makes you more optimized.

2. Keywords included in your meta content (stuff in the code at the top of the page that web spiders skim for relevance) should match your content. If one of your keywords is "diapers" you should include "diapers" in your writing.

3. Description on any videos and images... spiders are blind but they "read" everything.

4. Social Networking - There are billions of websites out there. To get people to visit yours you have to tell them that it exists. Mention it on directory websites, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn... Be a participant. If you comment on someone else's profile you are exposing your profile to all their viewers and when they reciprocate all there followers are directed to your wall. Find relevant social groups and participate.

5. Media Networking - put your photos and videos on Youtube and Flicker... etc... and link back to your website.

Exposure, Exposure, Exposure, Exposure...
A website does not in itself generate traffic. If you build it they will come, but only if you tell them where it is. A website is really just an on-line resume where people can find out more about you, what you do and how to get a hold of you.
