Free Project & Area Analysis
First Meeting - 1Hour
This includes discussing your ideas and looking through any pictures, magazines, books or other reference materials / sources of inspiration. I will take note of the size of the areas to be worked and discuss themes & color schemes. Design ideas, limitations, deadlines, budget, personal preferences and the many creative possibilities and interpretations may be explored at this time.

Murals are Priced Per Project

Different designs vary in complexity so it is impossible to give a rate based on area alone. Some clients want hyper-realism with a high level of detail or a Masters reproduction. Some may want a looser, impressionistic feel to the work or abstract design. Yet others may want a simplified or cartoon style for a children's mural. Each project is designed to the individual requirements of each client.
The mural location site must be seen to analyze the size of the space and determine if there are any architectural details that might effect the time required for the painting of a mural.
Estimates WILL NOT be offered before this evaluation.
If you have a certain budget let me know. We can usually work within this as much as possible.
An estimate will be provided within 2-5 days after our meeting.

Pricing Concerns & Variables:
• What is the area / square foot of the project?
• Is it the full size wall area or just a section to be painted?
• What is the degree of detail and complexity? Is it a trompe l'oeil? Is it a very loose, simple image?
• Is there minute detail wanted or portraits involved, etc?
• Does the initial concept drawing need a lot of research, study, sketches? Does the client have tear-sheet ideas, pictures to help clarify the design concept?
• What is the quality of the surface? Does it need surface preparation, patching or priming?
• Is the surface texture rough? Does it absorb paint?
• What are the architectural challenges of the work area (stairwell, high ceilings, bulkheads)?
• Is scaffold needed?
• Would the mural to be painted on canvas and installed?
• Outdoor Projects - Weather, wind, temperature, and location are all factors that will affect production time.
• Commercial Locations - Is there adequate ventilation, people in the vicinity of the project and ongoing commercial enterprise to be considered? Are there restrictions on the hours available for work, reducing production time?
• Geography - Travel and hotel stay and living expenses may be considered when the mural is not local.
• Height - Tall murals can add considerable time and danger to a project. Sometimes a crew must be hired to install and remove the scaffolding, making sure it is secured to the wall and filling lag-bolt holes afterwards.

Design Research & Conceptual Drawings

A mural is only as good as the initial preparation that one invests into it. For a great piece of art it is important to take the time to collect reference material. This may include taking photographs and searching for photographic references, making study's, drawings and/or computer renderings, producing stencils or templates for the project and coming up with the best possible design idea for the project.
• For larger, multiple and more complicated projects where the initial design is critical, time is billed at $100 per hour. This includes studies, research of subject matter and black & white or color renderings. This eliminates doubts as to what the final mural looks like and changes can be made before the actual full size mural begins. These are the plans that the client OK's before the contract is signed. This also insures that the client is serious and committed to a project and protects the artist's time. At this stage, there is a $450 rendering fee for murals. This fee will be deducted upon contract signing.
• In many cases a simple sketch is all that is needed. There is no design fee if the client respects the artist's talent and wishes the artist to freely create a mural or other artwork at her discretion.

Generally murals start from $25 per sq. ft. for simple cartoons, children's art or sky murals (minimum 100 sq. ft.) and up to $85 per sq. ft. for complex scenes, landscapes, etc.; The average price range is between $35-$45 per sq. ft. plus, scaffold, misc.; plus expenses. If you already have an image in mind for your mural, great!
If you only have a theme in mind I can generate a few loosely sketched ideas for you to choose from.

If you are happy with the ideas and agree to quote I would have you sign a contract with me.
At this time I require a deposit. For large murals a non-refundable deposit of 10% of the estimate (to be applied towards the cost of materials and preparation) is due upon signing. For smaller projects (ones that can be finished in approximately one day) the deposit is $50.

Unless I am provided with a specific image to reproduce, I will generate a black and white plan drawing for the mural to be approval.
A date is set for the painting to commence. On the first day of painting, 50% of the total cost (less the deposit) is due before the work begins. The remaining balance is due upon the completion of the mural. If major changes or additions are made to the mural once painting has began, additional charges will apply.
