This series of paintings was inspired by Swirls' online portfolio of custom designed cupcakes. They offer many specialty flavours and decorative cakes to compliment any colour scheme and theme.
Cupcakes on Purple is a simple arrangement of 4 decorated cupcakes: the clown with coloured candy sprinkles, the tuxedo with a chocolate dipped strawberry, the swirl with a cloud of pink and green fluffy icing and the blossom with a marzipan flower on a meringue biscuit.
Cupcakes on Orange features one of Swirls' signature cupcake towers. This one was for a wedding and is topped with a formal cake, trailing ribbons and marzipan roses.
Cupcakes on Blue depicts an indulgent coffee break. Why not enjoy a robust brew with a sweet treat. A drizzled chocolate heart embellishment is tucked into the fluffy pink and orange icing.

The original influence for the above cupcake paintings came from a series of chrome appliances and utensils I had painted several years back. The idea was not so much to realistically paint an object but to think of them as portraits. A toaster, a milkshake blender, a percolating coffee pot and utensils with a shaker: these objects definitely have character.
