Acrylics and Collage

I like to use a bit of magazine colage of colour and texture. It helps me to push the intensity if the colours I use. I'm naturally more inclined to choose earthy, dull tones.

The Falcon & the Rabbit

The Falcon & the Rabbit
The light is fading on the rabbit's life as it is carried away by the bird. It is dusk, the stars are just begining to tweak on as the sky darkens. A falcon is flying high above a farmer's fields. There is a castle off in the distance nestled at the base of a rocky cliff. Although the theme is a bit morbid, the colours and textures are rich and inviting.
The Coal Minor, Guiding Light

The Coal Miner & His Guiding Light

When minors went to work down deep below the surface of the earth, they would take cannaries with them to detect pockets of bad air. If the bird quit singing while they were in the mine it was time to get the heck out. The death of the bird was a sure indicator of poisonous gasses.
Conte was used to render the drawing and smudged into the paint to achieve a sooty look for the miner.
